about
An original song about the way that tunes travel around using the tune of a song apparently of Afghan origin called Khala Khala which was played at the dances in Marree quite possibly to accompany quadrilles. More research is needed on the song Khala Khala and its lyrics. Meanwhile, Tunes Circling has lyrics by Mahesh in English and Tamil and the song takes on first a Klezmer and then a swung New Orleans jazz flavour. Tapestries of Sound musicians respectfully acknowledge the breadth of global traditions we draw on and the unequal power relations amongst the communities which practice those traditions. We hope that this song demonstrates the power of a good tune but is also a prompt to reflect and celebrate the cultures which influence it and their people.
